THE PLACE :
WHERE :
From the coast this section of the park is easily accessible from both Swakopmund and Walvis Bay along the C28 and the C14. Visitors travelling from Windhoek have a choice of three gravel
surface roads through the Khomas Hochland, but at least five or six hours are needed if you are coming from Windhoek, and motorists must ensure that they have sufficient fuel.
The C28 is the most direct gravel surface route between Windhoek and Swakopmund, but caravans are not permitted because of the steep gradient of the Bosua Pass (1:5) which is best travelled from east to west.
Most of the route linking Windhoek and Walvis Bay via the Us Pass (1:10) is a district road and corrugated sections are quite common. The road winds through several dry river courses which are
sometimes impassable to sedan cars after heavy rains.
The southernmost route, the Gamsberg Pass, links Windhoek with Walvis Bay. It is the most spectacular of the three routes and is referred to as the Garden Route of Namibia. Travellers are afforded dramatic views of the rugged Kuiseb Canyon on entering the park.
