HARDAP RECREATION RESORT

Picture THE PLACE :
Often regarded as no more than a convenient overnight stop, this resort and its game park warrant at least a two-night stay if they are to be fully appreciated. Obviously the dam is the main attraction for the majority of visitors, but tourists often arrive late in the afternoon and leave early the following morning without exploring the game park. Perched on the edge of the cliffs along the northern banks of the dam, most of the bungalows overlook the huge artificial lake, while there is also a magnificent view over the water mass from the restaurant. To ensure that the buildings blend in with its surroundings, stone from the area was not only incorporated in the face-brick exterior of the bungalows, but also used for terracing and stone walls.

WHERE :
A signpost on the B1 15 km north of Mariental indicates the turnoff to Hardap. From the turnoff it is 6 km to the entrance gate, with the resort office being 2,5 km further on.

ACCOMMODATION :
For caravaners and campers there are grassed sites with ablution blocks and field kitchens, while groups can hire ten-bed dormitories with communal facilities and field kitchens.
There are also two-bed bungalows equipped with a kettle, fridge, shower and toilet, as well as two-roomed bungalows sleeping five which, in addition to the facilities of the two-bedded bungalows, each have a hot plate.
Each bungalow has its own outside fireplace, but no cooking or eating utensils.
Bedding and bath towels are supplied to guests in the dormitories and bungalows.

FACILITIES :
Facilities include a licenced restaurant, shop, kiosk, filling station, outdoor swimming pool and tennis courts, as well as a playground for children.
