Abstract:
The primary data input were points digitized from 1979, 1:50000 topographic sheets. According to Becker (2001) primary data entails data captured and maintained to the lowest common denominator, free of redundancy. The digitization of points was done in ArcView GIS 3.2, at 50-meter interval. Digitizing, one of the first step of geo-spatial techniques in creating a geo-spatial dataset, is the process of converting the features on a paper map into a digital format (ESRIÔ, 1996). The following 14 sheets were digitized: 2717AD; BC2717; BD2717; CA2717; CB2717; CC2717; DA2717; DA2716; DB2716; DB2717; DC2716; DC2717; DD2716 and DD2717. The points were captured in digitizing units because the program could not transform the coordinates to real world coordinates (Bernhardsen, 1992). A field in the attribute table that stored elevation values was created.
Purpose:
To come up with a 3D view model of the area. To improve image classification for future land cover classification of the study area, texture mapping, and generation of vegetation growth models.
Supplemental_Information:
Mapsheets were edge matched so as to merged and append them to produce a combined coverage. The process ensures that the sheets are matched precisely at the edges (Fig. 2.5.1).

Experience has shown that projection definition alone cannot produce good result in edge matching. Sheets to be edge matched should consulted during the process. The user needs to check the end or beginning of a feature from one sheet to another and adjust the features. At this stage it is better for the user to switch to ArcInfo Workstation rather than using Desktop ArcGIS. Using the former will avail the user to the environments similar to the older version of ArcInfo (7x).

In this study all the edge matching and the finishing touches were done in ArcInfo Workstation, and the merged output coverage produced
