Description:
Abstract:
An important climatic feature of the Namib, fog has been examined over the past 60years. In the last few years, possibilities for harvesting fog have been examined and evaluated. Harvested fog can be used as water sources for domestic use in the western Namib Desert.

The extensive data bank on fog, which is currently being augmented and refined, should facilitate the predictability of this water source at a site of study and therefore increase its variability to collect it for potable use. DRFN is developing and testing various fog-harvesting techniques at Gobabeb and nearby areas so as to improve the cost effectively of this water sources for small scale users, such as the Topnaar community and the GTRC. This monitoring remain ongoing.

Purpose:
1. Predict the spatial and temporal availability of Namib fog

2. develop and test techniques to effectively collect fog water

3. Collect fog water to supplement small scale water users

4. Demonstrate water management with fog water collector

5. Disseminate information to make fog water familiar to potential users and planners
