from the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and
Development held in Rio de Janeiro, three environmental
conventions, the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD),
the UN Convention on Biodiversity (CBD) and the UN Framework
Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), have been ratified by many
countries of the world including Namibia. If adopted and
implemented to their fullest intention, they would contribute
immeasurably to sustainable development including poverty
reduction, employment creation and other concerns of governments
throughout the world.
