Communal Area Conservancy Programme was officially launched by His Excellency the President of the Republic of Namibia, Dr Sam Nujoma.

So far 38,500 km² of land have been 'conserved' through the gazetting of 14 communal area conservancies, and at least 30 other conservancies are in various stages of development.
