The National Biodiversity Programme, with support from the Environmental Information Service Unit of DEA, announces the publication online of two of its posters.  Both of these posters were produced with the kind financial assistance of the German Government, through GTZ, and lesser assistance from the United Nations Environment Programme

The first poster, "What is this thing called biodiversity?," was published in early 2001 for distribution to schools, government offices, parliamentarians, tourism offices and operators, and conservancy committees. It heralds the forthcoming national biodiversity strategy and the action plan. The concept was designed by Rob Simmons of the Biodiversity Programme and finished by the professional artists at an award-winning local firm, DV8 Saatchi & Saatchi. It is accompanied by a short, double-sided information sheet for learners. For more information, contact Phoebe Barnard. [Download here: 34MB]

The second poster, "Namibia's Nasty Nine - alien invasive species," was published early this year and launched on 20 March 2002 at a national workshop held by the Alien Invasive Species Working Group of the National Biodiversity Task Force.  It highlights the negative impact on biodiversity of nine invasive plant species, and plans are afoot to focus on alien invasive animal species in future.  For more information, contact working group chairman Pierre Smit (psmit@unam.na).
