Third National Report to the Convention on Biological Diversity
Namibia
(News release: November 09, 2005)

Prepared for the Government of the Republic of Namibia by the Ministry of Environment and Tourism, this is Namibia`s third National Report to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), a process facilitated by Namibia’s Biodiversity Task Force. This Biodiversity Task Force is composed of a set of working groups responsible for implementation of thematic priority areas, i.e. related to the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP). Members/chair persons of individual working groups, CBD Focal Points and relevant individuals were consulted during the initial drafting period of the 3rd National Report.

Namibia has produced a suite of State of the Environment Reports (SOER). Most recently an “Integrated SOER” was drafted (Willemse et al., 2004). Although it has not yet been peer reviewed, elements from the SOER will be used for the purpose of reporting on the status and trends of biodiversity, updating information from the initial country study (Barnard, 1998). It should be noted that other additional assessments (see reports on Article 7) are underway or have been recently completed to supplement this information in future. The ISOER identifies a set of core indicators, identified as per key environmental issue concerning Namibia.
