WHO ARE WE

The Directorate of Forestry (DoF) is a
section under the Natural Resources Department within the Ministry of
Environment and Tourism responsible for the implementation of sustainable
forestry management in the country. We are a medium sized organization
with representation in all political regions totaling to 20 offices
countrywide. The wide decentralization
of offices allows the directorate
to provide immediate response to socio-economic problems affecting
communities.
OUR MISSION STATEMENT
To practice and promote the sustainable
management of forests and other woody vegetation with the involvement of
local communities, in order to supply products and services to enhance
socio-economic development of Namibians, while maintaining and enhancing
the other environmental and conservation functions of the resources.
FOREST POLICY, LEGISLATION AND
COORDINATION
The Directorate of Forestry is guided by the
two documents (i.e. forest policy and forest act) approved by his
Excellency Dr. Sam Nuyoma in 2001. The Forest policy and Forest act were
reviewed post independence for them to comply with the views of the
Namibian people. The
National Forest Policy document can be viewed from here. |
