Who we are - our vision and core values

 

 

Namibia’s Ministry of Environment and Tourism (MET) is guided by an ambitious yet attainable vision: 

“To be a role model in the conservation and use of biological diversity, promoting nature resource-based livelihoods environmental management and tourism development through innovation and partnership in order to contribute to rural development and economic growth.”

The commitment of more than 1,100 MET staff, who work in close collaboration with our partners in the other line Ministries, MET project partners such as the Community Based Natural Resource Management (CBRNM), the Strengthening Our Protected Areas Network (SPAN), Country Pilot Partnership for Integrated Sustainable Land Management (CPP NAM ISLM) and Namibian Coastal Conservation and Management Project (NACOMA), the private sector, and directly with the Namibian people is essential to maintaining our core values and achieving our vision.

The core values of the MET are: 

  1. Passion for nature and development: All Ministry staff will possess or develop and enduring love for the Namibian environment and the conservation of its natural beauty. 
  2. Urgency and promptness: MET is dedicated to quick turn around time in the delivery of service in response to requests and enquiries from its clients.
  3. Dedication and discipline: MET staff will remain dedicated to the fulfillment of its mission, goals and objectives and display the highest standards of discipline. 
  4. Hospitality: The MET will provide a courteous customer friendly service at all times to its clients in all areas of its operations. Service with a smile will be provided in all our front offices and contact with the Namibian public.
  5. Innovation: MET will pursue continuous innovation through learning, teamwork and knowledge sharing in order to remain competitive in the market and to continue the delivery of excellent service.  
  6. Pride: All MET staff will serve with pride through respect for our Nation and its symbols of authority and will conduct the business of the Ministry in a manner that will ensure the Ministry and the Nation is held in high esteem at all times.
