Environmental Conventions

Namibia is a signatory to many environmental conventions including those on biodiversity, climate change, desertification and hazardous wastes. The DEA serves as the focal point for these conventions and is thus responsible for ensuring that Namibia carries out the obligations and commitments that come with these conventions. The DEA seeks to use the opportunities provided by these conventions to address Namibian- identified priorities and environmental challenges so that sustainable development is ensured.  Responsibilities for the different conventions are shared between the different units and projects.
