Strengthening Capacity Enhancement to Implement the Global Environmental Conventions in Namibia (CEGEM) (2009-2012)
The CEGEM Project focuses on the need to mainstream environmental management issues into national development programmes and to address the Rio Conventions on Climate Change, Biodiversity and Land Degradation in an integrated manner. CEGEM seeks to achieve this by:
(i) Strengthening the technical skills and knowledge of key government and non-governmental organisations involved in environmental management,
(ii) Improving awareness of the the environmental conventions provisions and synergies,
(iii) Developing a mechanism to mainstream environmental concerns into national and regional planning and
(iv) Ensuring sustainability by institutionalising the implementation process.
The project is funded through GEF to the amount of US$260,000, and UNDP is charged with the fiduciary and technical responsibility for the project. The MET is responsible for the actual execution of the project activities.Teofilus Nghitila is the National Project Director, Ms Nekwaya Dietlinde is the Project Coordinator and the Project Management Unit is housed at the DEA.
